Worship at St. Christopher’s Church

Worship is at the heart of our life together.   The Episcopal Church is a liturgical church, with a Book of Common Prayer which orders much of our communal prayer.  However, we also use other resources, and we offer different styles of worship at each of the three services we celebrate each Sunday morning.  Whoever you are, and wherever you are on your spiritual journey, St. Christopher’s welcomes you to join us.

The first service, at 8 a.m., is the quietest of the three.  A very talented flute prayer often provides solo prelude and communion music, but hymns are sung only on the great festivals.  The full Eucharistic liturgy is offered, complete with sermon or homily.  The congregation is not large, but it is very faithful and very welcoming.

The second service, at 9 a.m., is more contemporary.  The liturgical text for the Eucharist is taken from Enriching Our Worship, an authorized supplement to the Book of Common Prayer.  Music is led by The New Song Ensemble, a group of instrumentalists and singers, and is a blend of traditional hymns, folk music, and more recently composed music.  Since Christian Formation for both children and adults follows this service, many families choose to attend at this hour.

The third service, at 11 a.m., again follows the Book of Common Prayer for the Holy Eucharist, with musical leadership and offerings of anthems by the Parish Choir.  This is a somewhat more formal service than the 9 a.m., though all ages are most welcome and the sounds of infants are often heard.

Lay people share in the leadership of all services, and we are intentional about including youth and older children in leadership as well as serving as choristers and acolytes.

The schedule changes slightly for the summer, when we meet for worship at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., and for Christmas, Epiphany, Holy Week and Easter.   Please call the office (810-694-3600) for current information.
