A TASTE OF ST. CHRISTOPHER’S will happen on Friday, May 9, at 6:30 pm!! Think about your favorite recipes, and be ready to participate in this fun evening!

Do you like to cook? Do you like to eat? Would you like to swap great recipes?

Well, then, the Outreach Ministry Team has just the event for you! On May 9, 2008, at 6:30 pm, we will be having A Taste of St. Christopher’s! Watch for sign up sheets which will be posted soon.

Here is how it works. You sign up for the recipe you plan to bring. Then on the ninth of May you bring your dish for sampling, a copy of the recipe and a free will offering for Christ Enrichment Center. There will be tables in the courtyard (weather permitting), in the Fellowship Hall and in the gather space for appetizers, entrees, main dish salads, vegetable dishes, breads and desserts. Small, sturdy plates and napkins will be available on each of the tables. You wander through the event sampling entries and voting for your favorites in each category. If you leave your name in the basket with your free will offering, a series of recipes from the event will be available for you to pick up in a month or two here at the church. Doesn’t this sound like a great meal and a great opportunity to socialize with other members of the parish?

We hope to see you there.

The Outreach Ministry Team

A GOLD PARTY will be held in Fellowship Hall, Friday, April 25, from 7 - 9 pm. With the price of gold high, Ronny Medawar of Medawar Jewelers, in Flint, has offered to come here to purchase gold jewelry or other items. Bring in gold jewelry that is broken, missing a part or is of no real value to you. The gold will be weighed to determine its value, the amount be, recorded for each person, one check will be written to the Building Fund of St. Christopher’s and a list of how much should be credited to each donor’s giving record for tax purposes will be received. Ronny will NOT take a per-centage for his service. This gift to the Building Fund does not replace pledges to the fund. It is an extra gift. This is also an opportunity to sit and chat with friends and have a glass of wine and some cheese.

NCC will perform songs based on “dance” — dance styles and the joy of dancing. The highlight of the event will be the Chorale’s presentation of the Liebeslieder Waltzes. This collection of waltzes by Johannes Brahams is being performed at the special request of Carol Easton Gatza. While we were pleased to grant her this wish at the beginning of the season, it seems particularly appropriate as With Voices Dancing will be Carol’s final performance with NCC as our accompanist (although we hope to persuade her to return for cameo appearances from time to time!). Performances will be Saturday, May 10 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 11 at 4:00 p.m., both at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Grand Blanc. Admission is $12.

Please join us for a concert that is designed to get your feet tapping and your spirit soaring! And, of course, we would love to be a part of your Mother’s Day celebration.

The first and greatest celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is the Great Vigil of Easter, which will begin at 7:00 pm Saturday, March 22. Yes, that really is the beginning of Easter Sunday, since the liturgical day historically begins with the preceding evening service, a tradition which Jesus would have known and observed.

It is a dramatic service, beginning with the lighting of a new fire and the blessing of the Paschal Candle (the one that ordinarily stands by the font). Following the lighted candle, symbolizing the Light of Christ, we move into the Social Hall, where we hear the stories of our salvation, beginning with creation.* After the readings and the songs, we move into the church for Holy Baptism, and the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, with organ music and abundant alleluias. Please bring a bell–any size, any sort— to ring jubilantly as we sing “Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us.”

Afterward please do continue the joyous celebration by coming to the party in the library. We invite you to bring finger foods and/or beverages to share.

In anticipation,

Elizabeth

* Personal note: this is such a powerful service that I always feel each year that my feet get wet crossing the Red Sea with Moses and the people of Israel when we hear that story.
